Legendary musician Prince, 57, died Thursday morning at Paisley Park in suburban Minneapolis.  In a statement released by his publicist Yvette Noel-Schure:

“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57. There are no further details as to the cause of death at this time.”

Prince achieved worldwide fame in the 1980s with albums 1999 and Purple Rain (the album  which shared the title with a film, Prince’s film debut). As referenced by the Associated Press, Prince “was widely acclaimed as one of the most inventive musicians of his era, drawing upon influences ranging from James Brown to the Beatles to Jimi Hendrix.” Prince was inducted into the Rock & Roll of Fame in 2004.
